Two cops who appear to DJ, Chowder and Jenny when they call the police to help deal with the house. They, much like other people, do not appear to believe the boys at all, but are simply doing their job to make sure they don't get hurt. He's a chubby guy with an immature, cowardly streak and less intelligence than DJ, but means well. Chowder visits DJ a day before the main plot kicks in, and he, DJ and Jenny decide to get inside the sapient house no matter the circumstances to unveil the mystery on Halloween night.

Nebbercracker returns from the hospital alive and well and it is revealed that Constance is the house. When they first met, Constance was an unwilling participant in a circus freak show who was ridiculed for her obesity. Nebbercracker developed feelings for her as he helped her escape and they later got married. On Halloween, during their house's construction, some children began tormenting Constance. Provoked, she attempted to chase them off as Nebbercracker tries to stop her, only to be knocked out as she stumbled and fell into the unfinished basement with her body accidentally being coated in cement, suffocating her.

While DJ and Chowder are still watching the house, Zee comes in and asks if they have seen Bones as he never returned the previous night. The boys realize that Bones has been eaten by the house after learning about the beer bottle, as the boys tell her. Zee thinks that the boys are telling stories and she goes out to find Bones. Constance hates Jenny because she helped DJ and chowder to stop her evil plan and was the one who cause herself to throw her, DJ and chowder out of the house.

This is however a great mistake; due to his elderly age, he forgot that his body could no longer endure the boy's weight and he had a heart attack at the same time. His bones cracked in the process, causing him to fall unconscious on DJ's body. One day, when Chowder accidentally had his basketball accidentally flew onto Nebbercracker's lawn and prompt DJ to immediately bring it back, Nebbercracker ambushes and storms towards him. DJ tries to calm him down, but this hasn't changed Nebbercracker's mind to scare him further.

DJ and Chowder see her going to Mr. Nebbercracker's house and they rush out to warn her catching her before she is eaten by the house. Jenny then calls Officer Landers and Officer Lister, but does not believe their story. Later the trio seek advice from Skull who is claimed to be an expert on the supernatural. They learn that the house is a Domus Mactabilis (Deadly Home in Latin) a supernatural being created when a human soul merges with structures. The only way to kill the house is to destroy its heart which it's source of life.

Nebbercracker then gives DJ a stick of dynamite, asking him for assistance in destroying the house. The kids then go to Reginald Skullinski, AKA Skull, a rumored expert on the supernatural. He tells them that what they’re dealing with is Domus Mactibillus, a rare breed of monster that spawns when a human soul possesses and merges with a man-made structure, and to defeat it, they have to go for the heart. This further arouses DJ’s suspicions about the house, and he calls Chowder to help him investigate. Meanwhile, Bones, the boyfriend of DJ’s babysitter Zee, teases Nebbercracker’s house out of anger over having his kite taken away from him when he was a kid.
DJ apologises to him for the loss of his house and wife, but Mr. Nebbercracker thanks DJ and the kids for freeing him and Constance. That night, children in their Halloween costumes are lined up at the site of Mr. Nebbercracker's house where DJ, Chowder and Jenny help him return the toys to their owners. DJ and Chowder then go trick-or-treating which they previously thought they were too old for.
They conclude that the heart must be the fireplace as DJ realises that the chimney has been smoking since Mr. Nebbercracker died. Officer Landers and Officer Lister thwart their plan upon arrival and they are arrested when Officer Landers finds the cold medicine that Chowder stole from the pharmacy his father worked at inside the dummy. DJ, Chowder and Jenny escapes the police car, but were trapped in the house. DJ and Chowder take Jenny to the pizzeria where Reginald "Skull" Skulinski, an overweight video-game fanatic works.
Skull tells them that the house has merged with a vengeful human spirit, which the children think must be that of the late Mr. Nebbercracker, and that the only way to kill it is to destroy its heart. DJ says that the chimney has been smoking ever since Nebbercracker was taken away, so they decide that the furnace must be the house's heart. The children plan to put the house to sleep, giving them enough time to extinguish its furnace. Chowder obtains some cold medication, which will make the living house drowsy, from his father's pharmacy and stuffs it inside a dummy.
